2 Quart 4.5mil (1/2 Gallon) Mylar Foil Oxygen Barrier Food Storage Bags 8" x 12" - 50 Pack
Will hold the volume of 2 quart canning jars

This is a 4.5 mil mylar foil oxygen barrier bag that holds 2 quarts of food like rice or wheat. This bag holds 3 lbs of rice which is twice as much as our 1 quart ziplock mylar bags. These bags are FDA Approved for food storage.

Use 2 100cc oxygen absorbers in each bag (or one 300cc). Since the 100cc oxygen absorbers come in a 100-pack, and since you have to use them up within one hour of opening the bag or reseal the rest up, many people like to use the 300cc oxygen absorbers because they come in 10-packs (5 10-packs give you a total of 50 oxygen absorbers which can be used in the quart, 2-quart and 1-gallon sized mylar bags). Yes, they are a bit of overkill in the 1 quart bags, but there is nothing wrong with that. I like to get 10 1 or 2 quart mylar bags ready with food in them (I always label the bags before filling), then I open a 10 pack of the oxygen absorbers and drop one in each bag. I then take each mylar bag, squish out the excess air as best as possible, and seal the bag with the Optimum Hot Jaw Heat Sealer (or you can use your clothing iron on its hottest setting). Now I have 10 mylar bags of food ready to seal up.

Do not expect all your mylar bags to look sucked in as if they were vacuum sealed. An oxygen absorber does NOT vacuum seal the bag, it gets rid of the oxygen, leaving all the nitrogen in the bag to protect your food. Sometimes the bags look sucked in, and sometimes they don't.

Please remember - Oxygen absorbers need to be used in 1 hour or less after opening the bag. If you will not be able to use them in that amount of time, then keep out what you WILL be able to use and seal the rest back up in the bag they came in. You can use a vacuum sealer like a Food Saver or Seal A Meal to reseal the bag, or you can use your heat sealer or iron to make a seal as close to the oxygen absorber packets as possible (squishing as much air as possible out of the bag before sealing).

Note: FoodSaver and Seal-A-Meal vacuum sealers do NOT reach a high enough temperature to seal the multi-layer mylar foil bags. You will not get a seal that will hold. Those vacuum sealers are designed specifically for the CLEAR single layer plastic bags sold to be
